round mcr "1 this the first ever staged at ilAood the club Duck fires Borough play again Thugs spoil the party after finally gained status The match was effectively a contest by half-time with a three goals up It took Andy McGonigl minutes to stamp his author game when he volleyed hoi from Tony Waugh Sixteen minutes later aft- less pressure from Lions North cracked Paul Jacques at Yeovil William Bull with Wealdstone Enfield 2 Wealdstone 2 WEALDSTONE showed tremendous character as they staged a spirited comeback to keep their FA Cup dreams alive in this 1st round replay at Southbury Road on Tuesday night Dennis Byatt gave Stones the per feet start with a penalty after seven minutes when Neil Cordice was brought down by Keith Barrett Mark Graves then rattled the Enfield bar with a beautifully struck shot from an Alan Cordice cross- But Enfield then hit back throw ing everything bar the comer-flags at a resolute Stones defence When they did manage to pierce a solid rearguard they found Bob lies in superb form 4 again when defender p-Lammin lobbed the ball past hi St keeper Chris Merison To complete Lammin's trcrabl afternoon he fouled Don Lucas frc behind and the referee punches early in the second half Lee Holmes levelled the scores with a header just 36 seconds after the break and put Enfield ahead five minutes later cracking home a Dave Flint cross Stones picked write another glorious chapter in Harrow FA Cup story That was when he struck with the all important goal to sink Yeovil on their famous slope atHuish It was a fairytale start for Boro gracing the First Round Proper of the competition for the first time in their history They now entertain Third Division Newport County who beat Poole 3-1 in replay in the Second Round on December 10 David Pearce broke down the left and crossed to the near post for Duck to flick the ball past Yeovil keeper Kieron Baker In keeping with their great cup tradition the Somerset club making a record 36th appearance in the 1st round hit back with guns blazing Boro took a battering in the second 45 minutes but held their own as keeper Les Currell inspired a stirring performance from his back line In contrast Yeovil let their discipline slip resulting in a booking for Phil James and an ipjury time sending off of Jeremy Brown their most adventurous performer after a clash with Mick Garrini It was Brown who came the closest to scoring for Yeovil 1 1 minutes into the second half leaving a trail of Boro players helpless as he cut inside and unleashed a 25-yard shot that cannoned against the crossbar But followers who had been segregated at one end of the ground Violence erupted as police stepped In One officer was left with blood pouring from a broken note and a police woman was kicked to the ground The Anal whistle provoked more trouble from the Yeovil thugs The Boro players went across to applaud their Jubilant supporters unaware of the sickening scenario that was unfolding behind them Referee Shapter from Torquay was hit and pushed after a group of Yeovil flans raced onto the pitch and he had to be escorted to safety by officials and police with a dog The Yeovil hooligans then rushed to the tunnel as heroes were disappearing into the dressing room There were farther disturbances outside the ground In a scene more akin to a Football League trouble spot than a sleepy Somerset town The Boro supporters were kept Inside the ground while police tried to clear about 200 Yeovil fans who had gathered In the street by the stadium Two youths were arrested and thrown In a police van after another clash with the officers Just yards from where I was standing The coaches were eventually brought round to the ground to frrry the Boro supporters to safety Later the Boro players had to cut short their celebrations to receive a police escort out of town The haraesed Somerset police had nothing but praise for the behaviour of the Boro supporters who never once became Involved in the dls-mrbances Boro Chairman Peter Rogers was sickened by the behaviour of the Yeovil fans who marred glory day are proud of the way our supporters and players behaved under considerable pressure They came out with tremendous credit very disappointing when you get that sort of trouble at a nonleague club not the sort of thing this club is used to I felt the police take control of the situation and
